About Portside Towers

Portside appeals to businesses that want a physical presence aligned with credibility. You position yourself in a tower that carries weight in the market. It signals stability without you having to say much. Clients read it immediately. Staff feel it when they walk in. You get a setting that reinforces the seriousness of your work without making the environment cold.

If your business is growing, the building gives you expansion opportunities depending on availability. The floor plates support phased planning, so you don’t need to uproot your team every time you scale. You can add sections over time while keeping your operations in one central place. Nothing about Portside feels rushed. It feels steady. It feels organized. It feels like the kind of place where teams can do real work without distractions. You look out over the city and feel part of something bigger, but you also get a space that lets you keep a clear mind.

If you need a workspace that supports professional credibility, operational stability, and staff well-being, Portside gives you a strong option. You can picture your team here without effort. You can see clients stepping out of lifts with confidence. You can imagine your business settling into a flow that feels sustainable.

If your business is established, you get a predictable base that supports long-term planning. You get a building that won’t age out of relevance or require constant adjustment. It helps you maintain your rhythm without disruptions.

On a clear day you can see forever. Or so it seems when you’re standing on the top floor of the new Portside building in the north-western block of Cape Town’s CBD. The distinctive mesa-topped mass of Table Mountain looms in the sky in one direction and then, if you turn your head, you find yourself looking at the curved blue swathe of the Atlantic stretching into the distance. In the parking basement there are 1 440 bays, including 70 spaces dedicated solely for hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles, charging stations for electric vehicles, 70 motorcycle bays and ample safe bicycle storage, alongside changing rooms and shower facilities. The building’s management keeps operations organized. You see it in how maintenance issues get handled, how access control works, and how communication flows. You don’t get the sense of being left in the dark or treated as an afterthought. The systems feel structured, and that stability has real value. A building affects your business more than most people admit. When the building runs smoothly, your team can run smoothly. When it doesn’t, you feel it immediately. Portside sits firmly on the positive side of that equation.

The tower’s height gives you views that shift with the time of day. Morning light moves across the mountain and the harbour in a way that feels calm and steady. Later, the city lights pull focus. You might not think these things matter, but they do something for the workday. A good view can reset your mind between meetings or soften the stress of a long week. It’s a quiet benefit, but a real one

In 2008 it was initially proposed that the building include a hotel and be 147.6 metres (484 ft) above sea level. However, due to the late-2000s recession and difficulties around securing a hotel management contact the project was put on hold for almost three years and the design was altered.[8] During the design and planning phase, and after extensive public participation, it was decided to keep the building below a certain height so as not to obscure the view of Table Mountain. The 32-storey tower[9] has over 51,500 square metres (554,000 sq ft) of office space with remaining space being used for over 1,382 parking bays[10] and retail outlets. The building was designed to use low energy technology throughout and is the first large building in South Africa to use almost exclusively LED lighting. The building has been awarded a five star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa as compliant technologies have been specified throughout.

South African-based architecture studio dhk designed the building. Portside towers at 139m tall, it comprises of basement parking, public interface at ground level, podium parking and 20 floors of office space. The design was inspired by international trends yielding a rectilinear form with a sense of timelessness and expression of structure. The use of LED lighting, storm water recapture, low-embodied-energy materials, and the provision of individually marked, removable and recyclable unitized façade panels earned Portside a 5 Green Star Design rating, making it the tallest green building in South Africa. The building is about 10 meters shorter than the permitted height, so that its visual impact is limited in relation to the geographical context of the city and Table Mountain. The owner of the Portside Tower is Accelerate Property Fund and FirstRand Band Ltd.

Cavitation is one of the most common yet damaging issues in hydraulic systems, especially in marine and offshore environments. It occurs when tiny vapour bubbles form within hydraulic fluid due to pressure drops and then collapse with force.

What is Hydraulic Cavitation?  While the bubbles themselves are microscopic, their implosions release shockwaves strong enough to erode metal surfaces, damage pumps, and compromise valves. For ships, offshore rigs, and maritime authorities that rely on hydraulics for propulsion, steering, lifting, and essential operations, cavitation isn’t just a minor inconvenience — it’s a serious threat to reliability, efficiency, and safety. At DMA Hydraulics Cape Town, we recognise that innovation and responsibility must go hand in hand. That’s why we are committed to applying sustainable practices that align with the needs of the industries we serve — from marine and offshore operations to manufacturing plants and transport and logistics fleets.

The Cape Town City Centre gives you a dense mix of business activity, access, and convenience. You get public transport links within short walking distance. You get structured parking options nearby. You get food spots, retail, gyms, and service businesses that help your staff move through the day without stress. The area stays active during office hours, and you feel connected to the broader business community. Companies choose the CBD because it places them at the centre of client activity, government offices, finance, and established commercial networks. You base your team here if you want strong visibility and daily convenience without overthinking location choices.

What Is Eco Hydraulics? Eco Hydraulics is the development and use of hydraulic systems designed with energy efficiency, reduced emissions, and environmentally friendly materials in mind. It’s about making hydraulics cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable — without compromising power and reliability. From colossal cargo ships navigating global trade routes to offshore platforms weathering the harshest seas, hydraulic systems are the driving force behind modern maritime operations. These marine hydraulic applications power essential functions such as steering, propulsion, cargo handling, stabilisation, and anchor control — all critical for keeping vessels operational, efficient, and safe.
