The District is a mixed-use development comprising four office buildings that enclose a central courtyard above a shared podium that wraps around the site and responds to each edge condition differently. The podium has a retail level along Sir Lowry Road with a generous entrance into the courtyard. Towards the more hostile New Market Street, the podium is elevated from the street in order to form a protective edge. The architecture of the respective office buildings also responds to the different edge conditions. The Sir Lowry Road facade (the building’s main elevation) mimics the industrial character of the Woodstock area, yet is expressed in a contemporary way through the layering of industrial type materials at different scales.
